Perceptions of nursing students for the development of professional practices

Abstract : Nursing students carry out professional practices in different places and with different mentors. The purpose of this paper is to collect information about the thoughts and perceptions of nursing study program students regarding the most preferred and least preferred places to develop professional practice related to age, gender and year of study. Cross-sectional methods were used, following a quantitative approach. The following components were assessed during the study: nursing study program students' perceptions regarding the most preferred places of professional practice development considering how it is offered by mentors, and nursing study program students’ perceptions about places less preferred professional practice development, related to mentors. The persons who participated in this study were 141 students of the nursing study program of the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Shkodra "Luigj Gurakuqi". For this purpose, a focus group was used. The most preferred places by the students turn out to be the wards where the students collaborate with the nurses, are more accepted by them and can watch and practice different procedures. Some of the reasons why the emergency ward is the least preferred by some students, the answers they gave were that you were not allowed to apply any procedure, the ward nurses did not explain the procedures to you and there was a lack of communication with them.

Impact of Physical Disability on Activities of Daily Living Among Injured Military Fighters

Abstract : The term "activities of daily living" (ADLs) refers to the fundamental skills required for independent self-care, such as eating, bathing, and moving around. Inability to execute fundamental daily chores may result in harmful situations and a low quality of life. Measuring someone's ADL is significant since it predicts admission to specialized care homes, the need for alternative living arrangements, hospitalization, and the use of professional home care. The study aims to assess the physical disability of the military wounded, evaluate the activities of the injured military fighters in daily life, and know the relationship between the activities of the physically disabled military fighters in daily life and the clinical data with socio-demographic characteristics such as (age, residence, education, marital status, socioeconomic status). A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used to assess the impact of physical disability on activities of daily living among injured military fighters. The research was conducted throughout the period September 19th 2021 to May 1st 2022. A convenient sample of (120) injured military fighters from Third Rehabilitation Center for the wounded was selected to accomplish the objectives of the study. One of the tools that were used to build the questionnaire was to measure the “Impact of physical disability on activities of daily living among injured military fighters”. The results revealed that the wounded fighters had moderate to severe physical disability in 49.2% of them suffer from moderate disability (176.54 ± 35,386), while 45.8% of them suffer from severe disability and 59.2% of the wounded fighters show moderate dependency in their daily life. Life activities (77.033 ± 11.707 Injured fighters have a moderate dependence on nutrition for daily activities, and 89.2 percent of injured fighters have a moderate function in daily activities (62.14 6.292). The result shows that there is a significant relationship between independence in activities of daily living and basic function in activities of daily living with regard to age, education level, number of children and marital status of injured fighters. The activities of daily living of physically disabled fighters are moderate as a result of physical disability. Sociodemographic age, education level, and socioeconomic status influence the daily life activities of physically disabled fighters. Physically disabled fighters suffer from their physical, emotional and social handicap as stated in their testimony. Mildly physically disabled fighters depend on others to complete their daily activities and need assistance with automated functions. Collaboration between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health in building and implementing health education programs regarding the promotion of daily life activities for physically disabled fighters. The Department of Defense should prioritize injured fighters in rehabilitation programs to enhance their standard of living, in addition to supporting them financially. Further nationwide research could be conducted on a large sample of physically disabled fighters focusing on a variety of relevant variables that may affect their daily activities in the future.

Critical Care Nurses' Knowledge regarding Nursing Care for Comatose Patients in Babylon Governorate Hospitals

Abstract : Nursing care for comatose patients admitted to critical care units requires carrying out essential care to enable patients to perform daily life tasks and prevent complications. The comatose patients are entirely dependent on critical care nurses for recovery, and it is the nurse's responsibility to always think critically before intervening; thus, critical care nurses working in these areas must have sufficient knowledge to assess and intervene. This study aimed to assess the critical care nurses' knowledge regarding nursing care for comatose patients. A descriptive study (cross-sectional) was conducted to accomplish the aim of this study from the period between 19th September 2021 up to 6th July 2022. A non-probability (purposive) sample consisted of (178) critical care nurses who worked in the CCU and ICU in the six hospitals at Babylon Governorate was selected. The results of this study showed that the highest percentage (74.2%) of critical care nurses were aged ranging between 22 and 29 years old, more than half (51.1%) were females nurses, and (61.2%) of them were married, in addition, more than half of the participants (53.9%) were graduated from colleges of nursing. Moreover, most of the study sample (66.9%) had (1-5) years of experience in nursing. In relation to the work unit, more than half of critical care nurses (59%) worked in ICU, while most of the participants (62.9%) had (1-3) years of experience in their current workplace, and more than half of them (53.4%) were worked at evening shift and (55.1%) of them did not have any training courses about nursing care for comatose patients. The overall findings of critical care nurses' knowledge demonstrated that (78.7%) of them expressed a moderate level of knowledge related to nursing care for comatose patients. The overall findings illustrated that the majority of critical care nurses expressed a moderate level of knowledge regarding nursing care for comatose patients.

Adherence of Hemodialysis Patients toward their Therapeutic Regimen in Al-Hilla Teaching Hospitals

Abstract : Adherence to dietary guidelines, fluid restriction, prescription medicines, and hemodialysis (HD) sessions is essential for optimal and successful therapy. Nonadherence is linked to a variety of unfavorable clinical outcomes and decreases the quality of life of patients. The study aimed to assess the adherence of hemodialysis patients toward their therapeutic regimen. A descriptive study (cross-sectional) was started from the 19th of September, 2021, to the 6th of July, 2022. The study was carried out in two artificial kidney centers at Al-Hilla teaching hospitals. The non-probability purposive sample consisted of 100 patients with ESRD who received hemodialysis treatment. The data was collected by using a modified questionnaire used to assess the adherence of hemodialysis patients toward their therapeutic regimen. Then this data was electronically analyzed using SPSS Version 26. The results revealed that the greatest percent of the study sample (36%) were aged 60 years and older, more than half (58%) were males, and the majority of the sample (74%) were married. 40% had only hypertension as a chronic disease. 72% of them received two hemodialysis sessions per week, and 46% had a hemodialysis duration of 6–12 months. The overall findings of hemodialysis patients' adherence demonstrated that 90% of them expressed a moderate level of adherence to the therapeutic regimen. The study concluded that the adherence of hemodialysis patients toward their therapeutic regimen was moderate.

PREECLAMPSIA PREVENTION BEHAVIOR THROUGH HEALTH COACHING BASED ON THE HEALTH BELIEF MODEL IN THE NEW NORMAL ERA OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN KUPANG CITY INDONESIA

Abstract : The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in Kupang City in 2018 was 4 per 1,000 live births. The cause of infant mortality is mostly due to low birth weight. One of the causes of Low Birth Weight is preeclampsia. The proportion of preeclampsia in NTT Province is still high at 4.7% compared to the national proportion of 2.7%. In addition to harming the fetus, preeclampsia also has an impact on the mother, including an increased risk of diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, congestive heart failure and cerebrovascular disease. The purpose of the study was to analyze the effect of health coaching based on the health belief model on the preeclampsia behavior prevention in pregnant women. The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test with control group design. The population were pregnant women in Kupang City during 2021. The research sample were 60 pregnant women at the Health center in Kupang City. Data analysis used Wilcoxon test and Mann Whitney and path analysis. The different test showed that there was a significant difference between the control and intervention groups who were given health coaching based on the health belief model (p-value <0.05). The results of the path analysis showed that the effect of HBM-based health coaching on knowledge was 0.571, self-efficacy was 0.508, attitude was 0.678 and action was 0.287. Health coaching based on health belief model affects knowledge, self-efficacy, attitudes and actions. The path coefficient is positive which indicates that the health coaching based on the health belief model increases the knowledge, self-efficacy, attitudes and preeclampsia prevention actions.
