Evaluation of Trunk Muscle Activities in Response to Four Common Infant Carrying Methods Utilized by African Women
Journal ID : AMJ-29-01-2023-11162; Author : Chidiebele Petronilla Ojukwu, Ebere Yvonne Ihegihu, Ijeoma Judith Ilo,
Abstract : Infant carrying has been reported to be physically demanding with risks of physical challenges to mothers/caregivers. This makes it important to evaluate different Infant Carrying Methods (ICMs) to guide choices for the promotion of maternal health. This study evaluated the effects of four ICMs (A–back, B–front, C–side, and D-in-arms) on trunk muscular activities. Thirty women simulated four ICMs while the electrical activities of the right (Rt) and left (Lt) components of the erector spinae (ES), rectus abdominis (RA), and external oblique (EO) muscles were recorded simultaneously during the tasks. Within-subject comparisons of the muscle activities showed that only the front (p = 0.011) and side (p = 0.033) ICMs elicited significant differences with their highest activities recorded in the left and right EO muscles, respectively. Between-subject comparisons of the muscle activities showed a significant difference (p = 0.022) only in the right EO muscle, being most active during the side ICM. The side ICM was observed to elicit the highest activities in three of the four studied muscles. Side ICM has more potential for over-exerting the trunk muscles, which could be a possible factor for muscular fatigue and resultant musculoskeletal impairments.

Abstract : Osteosarcoma is the most common bone malignancy in children. Osteosarcoma prevalence of 20% of all primary bone tumors in children. This study aims to determine the prevalence of osteosarcoma patients at Prof. Dr. I G N G Ngoerah Hospital. This was a retrospective study used secondary data collected from solid tumor register in Prof. Dr. I G N G Ngoerah Hospital in January 2016 – June 2022. Data from Prof. Dr. I G N G Ngoerah Hospital in January 2016 – June 2022 showed the prevalence of osteosarcoma in children is 30 cases, which the total cases had a greater prevalence in the male sex 18 (60%) and the age group 5 - 14 years amounted to 16 (53.3 %). In nutritional status, the highest prevalence was in good nutritional status 14 (46.7%), the highest location prevalence was in the tibia 12 (40%). Hematological data showed mean WBC 11.18, Std. deviation 5.37. Mean neutrophil 9.18, Std.deviation 12.15. Mean Hb 11.61, Std. deviation 2.71. Mean Plt 329.81 Std, deviation 129.42. Among amputated patient, 3 patients survive (10%), 4 patients died (13%). Among non-amputated patient, 8 patients survive (26%), 24 patients died (80%). Data on prevalence and characteristics are important as basic data in understanding risk factors and prognosis of osteosarcoma. Early detection, prompted management and selective amputation must be conducted to improve survival of the patients.

Gastroprotective Activity of Nutmeg Flesh Extract (Myristica Fragrans Houtt.) on Acetosal-Induced White Rats
Journal ID : AMJ-28-01-2023-11159; Author : Amran Nur, Ermalyanti Fiskia, Ismail Rahman, Yusri Sapsuha,
Abstract : Gastric ulcer is a disease disorder caused by damage to the mucous layer, submucosa, to the muscle layer of the gastrointestinal tract due to the activity of pepsin and stomach acid. This study aims to determine the effect of nutmeg flesh as an anti-ulcer. Tests were carried out using Wistar strain white rats. Nutmeg Flesh Extract (NFE) was obtained by maceration method using 70% ethanol, then divided into three dose groups, NFE 400, 900, and 1800mg/kgbw. Acetosal 500mg/kgbw was given as an ulcer inducer on the 8th day. As a positive control, Omeprazole was used at 20 mg/Kgbw. The test parameters observed were the number of ulcers, ulcer index, % protection, gastric pH, total acidity of gastric juice, and histology of gastric tissue. The results showed that the ethanol extract of nutmeg flesh at doses of 450, 900, and 1800 mg/kgbw had significantly different anti-ulcer activity against negative controls (p<0.05) in acetocal-induced rats with the highest protective ratio indicated by a dose of 1800 mg/Kgbw.
