Smoking as a risk factor for Depression and Anxiety Disorder: A Systematic Review
Journal ID : AMJ-01-10-2023-11643; Author : Saud S Alharbi,
Abstract : Smoking and depression continue to be contentious topics. Smoking is mostly a psychological issue in terms of its causes. Depression is the most prevalent condition that affects the entire body and manifests as physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms in primary healthcare facilities. This investigation explores the relationship between smoking and despair and anxiety. PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were thoroughly searched for relevant data. The Rayyan QRCI was used during the entire meticulous process. Our study article included 12 studies, in which the association between smoking and depression/anxiety was explained. The main parameters like age, sex, percentage of smokers and associated disorders were obtained. The clinical studies were required to determine the outcomes related to smoking and depression/anxiety. Smoking and depressive disorders are linked in the general population. Research must be done to determine why smoking and depressive symptoms are related, not to assist people stop smoking and thereby increase the prevalence of smoking.

Epidemiological Profile of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) Patients in Hail Region, Saudi Arabia
Journal ID : AMJ-30-09-2023-11642; Author : Waffa Aswaq Al-Shammari, Nora Zeban Alshammary,
Abstract : Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic disorder that affects the skin. Although rare, it is associated with huge disabilities and limitations for the patients. Literature on the epidemiology of EB is scarce in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia. We aimed to compile the epidemiological characteristics of EB among patients admitted to a dermatology center in Hail, Saudi Arabia. This was a cross-sectional study conducted between January 2022 and January 2023 at Rahma center, Hail, Saudi Arabia. All the patients admitted during the study period were eligible to participate. Data was collected on socio-demographic and EB characteristics. Descriptive analyses were done to measure the frequencies. Inferential analysis was performed to assess differences in disease severity with respect to gender. All analyses were done on SPSS version 23.0. A total of 27 cases were included in this analysis. Most of the patients positively identified with the EB disease were children ten years and below and males were 48%. The most common type was Junctional EB with moderate skin lesions. A majority of the cases had a positive family history of EB. A typical regimen comprises alert, oriented, verbal, walking, on daily dressing, soft diets, and oral medicines, such as iron drops, folic acid, and multivitamins. This study reported the epidemiological profile of EB in Hail, Saudi Arabia, and adds to the scarce literature on the disease. There is a need for large-scale research to further establish a profile of the condition and establish treatment and support services for EB patients.

Three-Dimensional Evaluation of the Trueness of Digital Impressions for Full Edentulous Jaws: A Clinical study
Journal ID : AMJ-29-09-2023-11641; Author : Muhammad Yazan Ghannam, Muhammad Griwati,
Abstract : Intraoral scanning for fully edentulous patients is a debated topic due to potential inaccuracies and difficulties in imaging soft tissues. Despite the introduction of various techniques for capturing impressions of edentulous jaws, their accuracy and reproducibility are still under scrutiny. The main limitations in this field include the inability to create digital functional impressions and a relatively low level of accuracy. This study aims to assess the accuracy of a digital impression technique by comparing it to a conventional one, with the goal of determining its potential as an alternative approach for comprehensive removable prosthetic treatment. The study uses 10 maxillary and 10 mandibular edentulous arches and obtains conventional impressions using polyether impression material. These impressions are scanned to create reference models. The study also obtains test models by directly scanning each specimen using three different techniques: without additives, with resin material landmarks, and with pressure-indicating paste. The study compares the test models to the reference models using 3D comparison software and calculates the root mean square deviation for the entire surface and specific regions of interest. The study finds that there are no significant differences in accuracy among the three techniques, but the maxilla has lower deviation than the mandible. The study also finds that the denture-supporting areas have lower deviation than the moving areas, especially the peripheral borders area. The study concludes that intraoral scanning has comparable accuracy to conventional impression methods, but it is not sufficient to replace conventional methods for the fabrication of removable complete dentures.

Positive and Negative Consequences of Bariatric Surgery in Saudi Arabia: A Systematic review
Journal ID : AMJ-27-09-2023-11640; Author : Saud S Alharbi,
Abstract : Obesity is seen as a chronic condition that may be managed by changing one's lifestyle, using medication, or having weight loss surgery. In Saudi Arabia, there has been a substantial increase in the number of people getting bariatric surgery. Although the benefits and drawbacks of surgery are well documented, it is still unknown if weight loss following surgery will last. Our goal was to evaluate the results of bariatric surgery. For pertinent information, PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were scoured in-depth. The Rayyan QRCI was employed throughout this thorough procedure. Our study article included 12 studies, in which the consequences and outcomes of bariatric surgery was explained. The main parameters like age, sex, type of surgery and body mass index were obtained. The clinical studies were required to determine the benefits and bad consequences related to bariatric surgery in Saudi Arabia. In order for bariatric surgery to be effective, sustaining weight reduction and reducing weight gain must be accomplished. Before and after surgery, factors including gender and the kind of surgery should be taken into account, with a focus on the need for long-term follow-up to ensure the best benefits and the worst outcomes from this intervention.

Shear Bond Strength Of Ceramic Brackets Bonded To A Different Surface-Treated Ceramic
Journal ID : AMJ-26-09-2023-11638; Author : Maslama Al-Bustanji, Rania Haddad,
Abstract : This research aims to evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of the ceramic orthodontic brackets Adhered to a ceramic surface (IPS E-Max Zirpress), after treating the ceramic surfaces in multiple ways, and then studying the amount of the remaining adhesive using the adhesive remnant index (ARI). The research sample consisted of 45 ceramic surfaces (IPS E-Max Zirpress) divided into three groups, which were treated using different methods, Etching using hydrofluoric acid (HFA) 10% and a combination between sandblasting with 50 µm aluminum oxide particles (SB) and hydrofluoric acid 10%, as well as roughening the surface using diamond burs then etching with 10% hydrofluoric acid. The shear bond strength resistance value in the combination group between sandblasting with 50 µm aluminum oxide particles and etching with 10% hydrofluoric acid was the highest, recording 7.23 ± 1.74 MPa, (P<0.05). E-Max Zirpress ceramic can be treated to adhere ceramic brackets in multiple methods, giving different results for the resistance to shear bonding strength. The combination group between sandblasting with aluminum oxide particles 50 µm and etching with hydrofluoric acid 10% recorded the highest results.
