Abstract : Hypocalcemia is the most common complication after thyroidectomy operations. Our aim in this study is to investigate the relationship between hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy and serum vitamin D levels. The study included of 100 consecutive patients who underwent total thyroidectomy. Patients had preoperative vitamin D levels <20 ng/ml [Group 1; n=50] and >20 ng/ml [Group 2; n=50] were divided into 2 groups. Groups were compared according to age, preoperative and postoperative corrected calcium and PTH levels. The mean vitamin D level was 12.4±3.8 ng/ml in group 1 and 31.2±7.5 ng/ml in group 2, and the vitamin D level was found to be significantly lower in group 1 compared to group 2 (p=0.0013). Preoperative serum Ca levels were found to be approximately the same in Group 1 and Group 2. When group 1 and group 2 were compared in terms of preoperative PTH values, mean serum PTH level (59.36±11.6 pg/ml) in group 1 was found to be significantly higher than group 2 (46.47±10.5 pg/ml) (p=0.001). In the postoperative period, the serum calcium level was below 8.5 mg/dl in 65 patients, and the postoperative hypocalcemia rate was 65%. The mean serum PTH levels after thyroidectomy were 59.12±8.66 pg/ml in all patient groups, and these values were significantly lower than the preoperative values (85.33±9.33 pg/ml) (p< 0.0001). When hypocalcemic and normocalcemic groups were compared, statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of preoperative vitamin D levels (13.65±6.8 ng/ml vs 18.54±8.5 ng/ml, p=0.001). In our retrospective study, no significant effect of pre-surgery vitamin D deficiency on hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy was found.

Abstract : Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital anomaly, affecting ∼8 in 1000 children. Nutritional status of patients with CHD is influenced nutrient inputs, energy requirements, dietary components. To describe the prevalence of malnutrition in children with cyanotic and acyanotic congenital heart disease. This cross-sectional study was conducted from January to July 2018. All patients aged 1 month to 18 years who were came to pediatric cardiology outpatient clinic with congenital heart disease were included. Echocardiography was evaluated in first coming. Patients were categorized according to cyanotic and acyanotic congenital heart disease. The data were taken in the form of gender, age, weight and height as well as nutritional status. During the study period, 65 children were admitted, consisting of 31 (47.7%) males and 34 (52.3%) females, with a median age of 61.8 months. There were 40 (41.5%) patients with malnutrition and 14 (21.5%) patients with severe malnutrition. Children with CHD develop malnutrition and growth failure. Further studies studying its usefulness as correlation between nutritional status and CHD are still needed.

The Impact of Coronavirus to Terrorist Offenders in Indonesia: Assessments on psychological risk profiles before and during pandemic
Journal ID : AMJ-04-03-2023-11277; Author : Zora A. Sukabdi,
Abstract : City lockdowns during the Coronavirus pandemic were seen by terrorism networks as authorities’ attempt to limit people’s access to places of worship and secularise people, as well as a sign of a forthcoming apocalypse. Several arrestments of terror actors in Indonesia during the pandemic raised the question of whether the physical restrictions ever reduced the criminogenic risks of terrorist network’s members. This study aims to investigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on highly-classified terrorist profiles in Indonesia. The study assesses the psychological criminogenic risks of these terrorist offenders before and during pandemic. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis was used to examine the risk assessment. The findings indicate no significant difference in the total scores of participants’ risks before and during the pandemic. However, the qualitative risk profiles demonstrate the changes in participants’ motivation, ideology, and capability. In terms of motivation, participants’ motives (e.g., economic, justice, social, situation-al/security, power, and actualisation) were slightly reduced during pandemic. For ideology, participants’ risk is significantly reduced throughout the pandemic. The results reveal that participants’ objectives change from going to Syria and executing terror actions to assisting members and families and reaching physical immunity to survive against the pandemic. Moreover, their acceptance to government programs is increased. In terms of capability to conduct terrorism (soft and hard skills for organising terror attacks), the results reveal a significant increase of skills. Their preparing apocalypse (which is believed as indicated by the Coronavirus pandemic) cause the increase of intelligence, language, and military abilities.

The samples were taken using purposive sampling with a sample size of 60 people in the treatment group (song) and 60 people in the control group (flipchart). Data analysis was performed using univariate (frequency distribution descriptive statistics) and bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney statistical tests. The results showed significant differences in knowledge scores and the amount of fruit and vegetable intake before and after counseling using flipcharts (control) and songs (treatment). There was a significant difference between the knowledge score after counseling using the flipchart media and the fruit-vegetable song media. However, there was no difference in the amount of fruit and vegetable intake. This study concludes that counseling with song media influences knowledge and consumption of vegetables and fruit in elementary school students. The need for sustainability and an additional period of intervention until there is a behavior change to become a habit of consuming fruit and vegetables according to the recommendations for balanced nutrition guidelines.

Abstract : Children with epilepsy require appropriate management, because uncontrolled epilepsy will increase the risk of morbidity and mortality. Antiepileptic drugs that are consumed in the long term also cause side effects, one of which is hyponatremia that can cause severe conditions for children with epilepsy. This study to determine the correlation between anti epileptic drugs and the outcome of hyponatremia in childen with epilepsy at the H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan. Analytical analyses with crossectional study in children with epilepsy aged 1 years up to 18 years at the H. Adam Malik Medan hospital from Juni – September 2022. The patient had experienced other etiology of hyponatremia and gotten other treatment which had side effect hyponatremia were exclude. Assessment of these variables with Chi Square test and alternative Fisher’s Exact test. These analyses used prevalence ratio (RP) and p value (p<0,05) with convidence interval (CI) 95%. A total of 120 children with epilepsy were analyzed, and approximately 29 children had hyponatremia. Chi square test analysis showed that were no significant correlation between use of antiepileptic drugs and hyponatremia (p=0,861), duration treatment and hyponatremia (p= 0,672), antiepileptic dose and hyponatremia (p>0,05). Fisher’s exact test analysis showed that was no significan correlation between types of antiepileptic drugs and hyponatremia (p>0,05).
