Abstract :
This study aims to investigate the effect of Lumbricus rubellus extract on serum FOXP3, Interleukin-5 (IL-5) levels, and Bacterial Inhibitory in Atopic Dermatitis patients. A true experimental study with pre-test and post-test procedures and a control group design was conducted. A combination of Lumbricus rubellus capsule extract was given orally to the treatment group and examined by ELISA to determine levels of FOXP3 and Interleukin-5 on day 0, day 14, and day 30. The control and intervention group applied by Vaseline topically. Also, a Bacterial Inhibitory Test was performed in the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory. Of 30 participants, the participants predominated females (53,33%) and those aged 17-25 (23,33%). Lumbricus rubellus Extract can increase FOXP3 levels (3.74 ± 1.44 vs. 3.25 ± 0.86 vs. 2.00 ± 0.99 in week IV, week II, and week 0, respectively; p=0.000) and reduce IL-5 (251.9 ± 248.53 vs. 266.57 ± 271.73 vs. 289.28 ± 255.28 in week IV, week II, and week 0, respectively; p=0.000). A comparable result was found in the control group. In vitro tests revealed no significant inhibitory concentration of the extract. Alternative therapy with Lumbricus rubellus extract can be used in Atopic Dermatitis patients.
