Abstract : The aim of this study was to compare the microbial colonization in suture threads between Vicryl plus Vicryl and following third molar surgical extraction. 26 patients were included in this study for third molar surgical extraction, then a microbiological analysis was conducted using colony forming units (CFUs) count on blood agar plates, 7 days after the surgical procedure. Vicryl group showed higher count of CFUs with a mean of (1501000), and standard deviation (1039500). While, Vicryl plus group showed significant decrease in CFUs with a mean of (931538), and standard deviation (713553), and p-value 0.026. Vicryl plus suture showed statistically significant decrease in bacterial colonies, so it could be a possible alternative in medically compromised patients.
